The short version

What we do with your email

We collect what you type into the form so we can tell you when the thing you said you were interested in actually exists. That's it. We don't sell it, share it, or use it for anything that didn't come from Oak & Sprocket.

We count visitors with a cookieless tool that can't identify you. We don't run advertising or social tracking pixels. The whole list of outside companies involved is three, and it's at the bottom of this page.

What we collect

Only what you put in the form: your email address, and — if you choose to fill them in — your name, whether you're a rider, guide, lodging host or local business, what you ride, whether you'd want a guided ride, where you'd ride from, and anything you write in the notes box.

Our server also records two technical details that come attached to any web request: the two-letter country code your connection resolves to, and your browser's user-agent string. We keep them to spot junk signups. We do not store your IP address.

What we use it for

  • Telling you when guided rides open for booking, or when we add routes worth knowing about.
  • Asking you a question, if you're a guide or a host and we're trying to figure something out locally.
  • Understanding what people actually want — how many riders versus hosts, how much interest there is in the shop side.

We'll write when there's something worth reading, and not otherwise.

What we won't do

  • Sell your information, rent it, or trade it.
  • Share it with another company to market their own products to you.
  • Send you anything that doesn't come from Oak & Sprocket.
  • Run advertising or social-media tracking pixels on this site.

How we count visitors

We use Cloudflare Web Analytics to see how many people visit and which pages they read. We'd rather know that than guess.

It is deliberately the least invasive tool we could find that still answers the question. It sets no cookies, does not follow you to other websites, does not build a profile of you, and does not collect anything that identifies you personally. It counts page views and records the general things any web server sees — which page, which site you came from, what country, phone or desktop. It cannot connect that to your email address, and neither can we.

Instagram and Facebook

We're on both, and the links in the footer are ordinary links. We have deliberately not embedded a feed or installed a Meta tracking pixel, because either one would let Meta watch everyone who visits this site, including people who have no interest in social media. If that ever changes — say we start running ads — this page changes first and says so plainly.

If you find us through Instagram or Facebook and interact with us there, that happens on Meta's platforms under Meta's terms, which we don't control.

Where it's stored

In a database hosted by Cloudflare in the United States. When we start actually sending email rather than just collecting addresses, we'll use an email service to do it, and your address will be stored there too — that's how unsubscribe links work.

Getting out

Email hello@oakandsprocket.com and ask. We'll delete your record and tell you it's done. You don't need to give a reason, and every email we send will carry an unsubscribe link.

Same address if you want to know what we have on you, or want it corrected.

The complete list of third parties

Three, and this is all of them:

  • Cloudflare — hosts the site, stores the signup list, and counts visitors.
  • Google Fonts — serves the two typefaces, so loading a page makes a request to Google's servers.
  • An email service, once we start actually sending mail. We'll name it here when we pick one.

No advertising networks, no data brokers, no session recorders, no chat widget, no Meta pixel.

If this changes

We'll update this page and change the date below. If a change actually matters — if we ever wanted to do something with your information that this page says we won't — we'd email you and ask first.
